Diesel engine pumping station Parksluizen

In October 2008 the renovated pumping station Parksluizen has been opened near the Coolhaven in Rotterdam. The pumping station is located at the edge of a system of waterways, the so called gulf of Delfland. The station is one of the six gulf stations pumping excess water to the Nieuwe Waterweg and the North Sea. Allowing Rotterdam, Delft, Pijnacker-Nootdorp, Lansingerland and Midden-Delfland to keep dry.

Until October 2008 the station was able to pump up to 10.000 liters per second. However with the replacement of the pump the capacity now has been increased to 20.000 liters per second. The station is part of the ABC-program, which stands for Drainage and Storage Capacity in Delfland.

Diesel Equipment Trading (DET) delivered Pasman Motoren the Mitsubishi S16R-PTA, the diesel engine driving the pump of the station. This engine automatically starts when the standard electric motor fails. When the S16R-PTA is started, the coasting clutch will be automatically and gradationally activated, enabling a smooth transition. The clutch has been specially developed for this purpose by the firm Stromag. When in free wheel position the clutch will constantly overrun. The Mitsubishi S16R-PTA is the successor of the Stork diesel engine that was in need of replacement.
